Softer, thinner, and lighter than most outer shells, softshell material is usually layered with several other materials to compose a garment. The triple layer technology allows the fabric to “breathe” thanks to a middle laminate membrane covered in tiny pores. The outer polyester softshell layer is water and wind resistant, while the inner microfleece layer protects against the cold.
